Muscat: The Ministry of Social Development (MOSD) has said that the statistics circulating on social media about domestic violence in the Sultanate of Oman are incorrect.
The ministry said that after verifying the source of the statistics, it became clear that it was based on a study issued by the ministry dating back to the year 2017, and related to the extent of society’s understanding of the issue of domestic violence, and it is the result of opinion questionnaires on a limited sample. It is not possible to generalize its results.
The ministry indicated that the cases that were dealt with during the year 2022 amounted to 17 cases of Omani women who were subjected to abuse.
The ministry called on everyone to investigate accuracy when publishing or re-publishing statistics and data and to obtain information from its official sources.
