MUSCAT: Construction work at a number of health institutions is progressing well and they will be opened in a short time to meet the increasing demand for healthcare services resulting from the population increase Musandam Governorate is witnessing.
Eng Jamal bin Salim al Shanfari, Director-General of Projects and Engineering Affairs at the Ministry of Health, noted that among the projects currently under implementation is the new Khasab Hospital which is built on an area of 100,000 sq m with a built-up area of approximately 36,000 sq m. The main building of the hospital consists of three floors with a capacity of 164 beds.
The new hospital will have a number of inpatient wards covering a wide range of medical specialties for men and women including a surgical ward, an internal diseases ward, obstetrics and gynaecology ward, paediatrics ward, intensive care unit, paediatric intensive care unit, an intensive care unit for newborns and premature babies, emergency and resuscitation unit, day care unit, dialysis unit, cardiology unit, among others.
The structural work of the nearly RO 48.4 million Khasab Hospital has been completed and the implementation rate has reached 64 per cent and the hospital is expected to be operational in 2024.
The Ministry of Health has embarked on the construction of 11 hospitals in various wilayats and governorates, to develop the health sector and keep pace with the growth of population in Oman. The projects will benefit both Omani citizens and residents.
Al Shanfari earlier said that the ministry is upgrading Madha Health Centre in Musandam Governorate, to make it a full-fledged hospital, and is slated to be opened later this year.
He said that Thamrait Health Centre will also be upgraded into a hospital and is likely to be completed this year.
