Muscat: The Duqm refinery in Oman will be fully operational by the end of the year, Kuwait News Agency (KNA) reported, citing Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) chief executive Sheikh Nawaf Saud al Sabah.

Upon completion, the refinery is expected to process around 230,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil.

The refinery project in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm is a joint venture between Oman’s OQ Group and Kuwait Petroleum International, owned by KPC.

Duqm Refinery will be one of the growth engines for the special economic zone. It will provide development opportunities for new projects that will, directly and indirectly, interface with the refinery.

These projects will look to benefit from the refinery’s products as well as provide different logistic services to the refinery.

This venture will honor the achievement of international standards by giving Duqm a name as a major player in the field, therefore adding intangible value to Duqm as a brand while introducing new industries to the area.
