MUSCAT: Oman Olympic football team recently ended their domestic camp with a 1-1 draw against Al Nahdha on Friday. The camp was scheduled as part of the team’s preparatory plan for the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qatar 2024 Qualifiers which will take place in Jordan during September 4 to 12. The head coach of Oman Olympic football team, Akram Habreesh, evaluated the player’s readiness technically and physically during this warm up gathering. The national coach did several substitutions during the match against the champions of the HM Cup and Omantel league. Oman’s goal was scored by Ahmed al Mushkehi while Al Nahdha’s goal was netted by Essam al Subhi.
The team will soon return to the series of internal and external preparatory camps. It is expected that the team will play in a few international friendly matches and the schedule will be announced soon by the OFA.
In the AFC U23, Oman will play in Group A against Jordan, Syria, and Brunei. The qualifiers format will be in a single round-robin at a centralised venue with the 11 group winners and four best second-placed teams. The finals will be played between April 15 and May 3, 2024.
The team had delivered an impressive show despite their early exit in the Arabian Sports Games in Algeria earlier this month. Akram’s men ended their campaign at the group stage as they were placed in third place with four points. Oman boys had defeated Lebanon 1-0 and held the hosts to a goalless draw in the opener. The loss against Sudan 2-0 in the concluding match ended Oman’s dream to enter the semis.
