MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Omani Paralympic Committee, participated in the General Assembly of the Arab Federation for Persons with Disabilities in Al Ain, UAE, on Friday.

The meeting was chaired by Ihab Hassanein, who serves as both the President of the Arab Federation for Sports of People of Determination and the President of the African Paralympic Volleyball Confederation. The event was attended by members of the Board of Directors and Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Hinai, Secretary of the Omani Paralympic Committee.

A significant highlight of the assembly was the signing of a "cooperation protocol" between the Arab Federation for People with Disabilities and the West Asian Paralympic Federation, which is presided over by Dr Abdulrazzaq Bani Rashid. The protocol aims to foster collaboration, explore and discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two esteemed federations.

During the meeting, Al Hinai expressed his delight at the successful convening of the General Assembly of the Arab Federation. He noted that the assembly addressed the crucial task of amending certain articles of the federation's statute, as well as the formation of vital administrative and technical committees. These strategic measures are intended to propel the Arab Federation for Persons with Disabilities towards unprecedented growth and advancement across all its domains.

Furthermore, Al Hinai emphasised that the upcoming period will witness the launch of numerous Arab sports championships. These championships will encompass volleyball, swimming, weightlifting, and boccia, which are aimed at enhancing the capabilities of athletes with disabilities. By providing opportunities to compete in upcoming international championships, the Arab Federation aims to promote inclusivity and encourage the empowerment of athletes with disabilities.

Oman remains steadfast in its commitment to the inclusion and empowerment of people with disabilities, recognising the profound impact that sports and athletic pursuits can have on the lives of individuals with determination through active participation in regional gatherings like the General Assembly of the Arab Federation.
