CPA launches unified contracts initiative

The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA), represented by the Directorate-General of Studies and Development, launched the unified contracts initiative for a number of sectors in the Sultanate of Oman.


The initiative aims at the continuous development of all services provided to the consumer, and the facilitation of all existing procedures in the market, of which the unified contract is the most prominent, as the initiative focused in its current phase on the sectors of aluminium and kitchen workshops, and electrical and electronic goods.


It also aims to define the supplier and the consumer of their rights during and after the purchasing process, provide consumer safety in the markets of the Sultanate of Oman, combat all forms of commercial fraud and reduce negative practices.


In addition, to identifying the problems facing the consumer and providing solutions to them, and reducing complaints and problems that may be encountered the consumer, and improving the quality of the awareness programmes provided by the Authority to the consumer.


CPA stated that the initiative will be implemented in two phases, the first centring on drafting, reviewing and approving contracts, while in the second phase it will be applied to commercial establishments, followed by a follow-up process of implementing the initiative during the coming years by measuring verification indicators every year with the aim of overcoming difficulties and challenges.


By that, it will contribute to the improvement of the business environment, especially the retail and services sector in the Sultanate of Oman. Even, the development of legislation and field procedures, and the avoidance of violations and financial fines by raising the level of institutional awareness of the regulations and requirements of the Consumer Protection Authority.


It should be noted that the initiative was based on basic principles, including the realisation of the Oman Vision 2040, international, regional and Arab experiences based on the Consumer Protection Law.
