Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT) has responded to reports that a number of vegetable shop owners, including citizens, have been booked for various violations. In some cases driving licenses have been revoked.
MTCIT said such violations are not new and as per executive regulations of the Land Transport Law (Articles 19 and 20)), all land transport activities must be licensed and operations have a registration card from the ministry.
The regulation specified a fine of RO300 for the illegal transportation of goods and RO2000 for the activity of renting or leasing vehicles to anyone who violates any of the licensing conditions stipulated in the regulation.
The ministry said that the field inspectors responsible for regulating the land transport activities take efforts to combat violations regarding the transportation of goods and individuals.
The ministry stressed the need for business owners to reconcile their conditions by not practicing land transport activities without a license or in unequipped means of transport and added it welcomes all media inquiries, which it considers a key partner in improving its operations.
