MUSCAT - The General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) signed a joint executive program with the Federation of GCC Chambers of Commerce and Industry on Monday with the aim of supporting joint trade and commerce.

The program was signed by the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassim Mohammed al Budaiwi, and the President of the Federation of Chambers of the GCC, Hassan bin Mujib al Huwaizi, in Riyadh.

Al Huwaizi of the Federation of Chambers stated that the signing represented an extension of the cooperation between the Federation and the Council which aims to enhance joint efforts in the Gulf and dates back to 1992.

The agreement aims to enhance the integration of economies of GCC member states in general, with a particular emphasis on the private sector. That includes strengthening the role of the private sector in the region and promoting joint projects between establishments in the Gulf.

In addition, the program will monitor and implement the provisions of the Unified Economic Agreement – a framework that aims to achieve economic integration among member states- and implement the economic decisions of the Supreme Council.

The program will also extend to include the organization of seminars and scientific conferences, joint training opportunities, and the distribution of studies and research issued by the Federation.

In other efforts to unify economic efforts in the region, the Secretariat General of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council recently announced that will soon launch a centralized recruitment portal for GCC citizens.
