Huge increase in exports of Oman's refinery and petrochem products

MUSCAT: The total production of refineries and petroleum industries in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 19.1 per cent until end of May 2023, compared to the same period of the previous year. Liquefied petroleum gas and motor fuel M91 saw significant increase in exports, with 1212.3 per cent, and 232.1 per cent growth, respectively, according to preliminary statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).


Oman’s exports of M95 fuel until end of May 2023 reached 226,400 barrels, a decrease of 91.8 per cent compared to the same period in 2022, while exports of gas oil (diesel) amounted to 8,912,200 barrels, up by 50 per cent, and 2,540,200 barrels of jet fuel, an increase of 57.6 per cent.


On the other hand, the statistics indicated an increase in the production of motor fuel M91 by 46.6 per cent, to 7,046,300 barrels, while its sales amounted to 5,843,100 barrels. Meanwhile M95 saw a decrease in the production by 29.6 per cent to 4,815,600 barrels, while its sales also decreased to 4,831,000 barrels.


The production of gas oil (diesel) increased by 22.5 per cent, recording 14,566,700 barrels, and its sales recorded 5,799,000 barrels. Jet fuel production also increased by 57.6 per cent, recording 4,193,600 barrels, with sales of 1,678,500 barrels. Liquefied petroleum gas production increased by 43 per cent, reaching 3,433,300 barrels.


With regard to petrochemicals, gasoline production increased by 270.6 per cent, recording 63,000 metric tons, while paraxylene production reached 211,800 metric tons, an increase of 1168.3 per cent. Polypropylene production increased by 28 per cent, recording 111,200 metric tons. Paraxylene exports reached 210,200 metric tonnes and polypropylene exports increased by 41.3 per cent, recording 102,900 metric tonnes, while gasoline exports recorded 66,900 metric tonnes.
