MUSCAT: The Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) celebrated yesterday, Wednesday, the inauguration of the Saih Al Khairat Station in Dhofar Governorate. The event was held under the auspices of Eng Ahmed Hamed al Subhi, Nama Holding’s Chairman and attended by Eng Saleh al Rumhi, the CEO of the company, along with several members of the company's executive management team, Nama Group, as well as a group of employees, contractors, and consultants.
This grid station is considered one of the promising strategic investments for the OETC. It will ensure a stable and reliable energy supply to various sectors, including factories, the agricultural sector, and livestock development farms. Furthermore, it will work towards meeting the future growing demand for electrical energy in Dhofar Governorate.
The grid station has been equipped with communication infrastructure and security systems. Additionally, an overhead transmission line has been constructed, connecting the Thamrait Grid Station to the Saih Al Khairat Grid Station at a voltage of 33/132 kilovolts, spanning a length of 91 kilometers. The grid station is located 80 kilometres away from the Wilayat of Thamrait. It comprises six gas-insulated cells at 132 kilovolts, four cells at 33 kilovolts, and two transformers with a capacity of 125 mega-volt-ampere. The total cost of the project amounted to RO 14 million.
Eng Saleh al Rumhi, OETC’s CEO, emphasised that this project represents a strategic investment that will contribute to connecting rural areas to the electricity network in Dhofar Governorate, thereby reducing operational costs. Al Rumhi added, "The implementation of this project aligns with the vision of the Sultanate to achieve carbon neutrality by the year 2050. It is expected to help reduce reliance on diesel fuel for station operations and significantly decrease carbon emissions by approximately 114,000 tonnes annually."
OETC, a member of the Nama Group, is the only company responsible for the transmission and control of electricity across the Sultanate of Oman’s network. The electricity is transmitted from production stations to distributed load centers in the governorates. The transmission network operates at a voltage of 132kV and above to cover most of the governorates in the Sultanate of Oman, whether in the north or the south. Furthermore, OETC manages the interconnection lines between Oman and the GCC interconnection network, which operates at a voltage of 220kV.
