Al Yarubi claim gold medal with record in Arabian Athletics meet

MUSCAT: Salim bin Saleh al Yarubi, Omani long jumper, raised the tally of Oman’s medal in the Arabian Athletics Championship to two medals, as he clinched a gold medal in the triple jump competitions. Al Yarubi managed to earn a gold after he cleared a distance of 16.42 meter while his competitor Malaib Abdul Hakeem from Morocco captured the silver medal after he registered 15.73 meter and his teammate Hammadi Ahmed bagged the bronze medal as he recorded 15.73 meter too. Beside the gold medal accomplishment, Al Yarubi broke the national record in the triple jump competition. On Earlier days of the Arabian Athletics Championship, Oman’s Fatik Abdulghafoor claimed the first gold medal for Oman in high jump competition as he registered a jump with a mark of 2.15 meters while the silver medal went to Iraq’s athlete Hussain Falah Hussain with a mark of 2.12 while Qatar’s Hamdi Abkar finished third with a jump of 2.12 metres.


In other competitions of Arabian meet in Morocco, Oman’s Mohammed al Saadi and Rashid al Asmi progressed to the finals of the Men’s 200 meter race competition. Al Saadi registered a timing of 20.91 seconds in the qualifiers while Al Asmi clocked 21.10 seconds. In the previous days of the championship, Oman’s Barakat al Harthy was placed sixth in the men’s 100 metre race after he registered a timing of 10.64 seconds. Mazoon al Alawi ended her participation in the women’s 100 metre at the fourth place with a timing of 11.99 seconds. Mazoon also took part in the women’s 100 metre hurdles and she placed in the fifth position after she clocked 14.85 second.

The national hammer throw record holder Mubeen al Kindi placed in the ninth place of hammer throw competition. He cleared 56.97 metre while the Egyptian athlete Mustafa al Jamal snatched the gold medal with a throw of 75.70 metre. Egyptian athlete Ahmed Tariq Ismail ended as runners up with a throw of 70.65 and Tunisian Mohsin Annati finished third with a throw of 67.48 metres.


The 23rd edition of the Arabian Athletics Championship concluded on Saturday in Morocco after five days of thrilling competition in different competitions. As many as 250 athletes representing 16 countries took part in the Arabian meet. With the conclusion of the Arabian Championship, Oman’s athletes will gear up to vie in the Arabian Sports Games which will be held in Algeria during July 5 to 15. Then, the national athletics team will take part in the Asian Athletics Championship for senior category in Thailand in Pattaya city during July 12 to 16. Oman’s athletes will eye for achieving more medals in the forthcoming event and raise the Sultanate of Oman flag high in the regional and international events.
