This groundbreaking programme combines producing and selling exquisite handicrafts, empowering local artists and garnering widespread recognition for its remarkable achievements.

The project Lafta’ meaning ‘Crafts for Glory,’ emerged victorious at a prestigious art competition in North Batinah for its innovative ideas and projects led by art teachers.

By blending the beauty of handicrafts with sustainable business practices, this unique initiative not only showcases the power of artistic expression but also highlights the immense potential of the creative economy.

The initiative's primary goal is to support artists in transforming their handmade creations into viable businesses. Through a platform allowing a group of students from different schools in the region to showcase their talents and market their crafts, this remarkable endeavour has proven to be a resounding success, artistically and commercially.

‘Lafta’ solidified its position as a driving force in the artistic community by emerging as the victor in the prestigious competition. Spearheaded by visionary artists and dedicated art enthusiasts, this initiative has set a new benchmark in blending artistic prowess with commercial success.

What sets ‘Crafts for Glory’ apart is its commitment to nurturing talent and honing skills through comprehensive training programmes. Recognising the need to bridge the gap between art and business, the initiative provides workshops and sessions on product development, marketing, and branding, and enables students to create high-quality, marketable handicrafts that attract community attention.

Over the past two years, ‘Crafts for Glory’ has evolved from simple products supporting cultural handicrafts to a fusion of traditions and modern art. Its reach has expanded beyond the local community, gaining extensive coverage and popularity among artists in the area. The income generated from selling these products is used to develop art workshops, benefit the owners, and support charitable causes.

Ohood Alkhawaldi, one of the founders of 'Lafta,' expressed her joy at winning the first prize in the competition and being recognised in the region. She emphasised their direct involvement in overseeing the group of students and their commitment to supporting and nurturing artistic talent with new ideas.

Alkhawaldi recalled a memorable incident where the head of a national bank in Oman was fascinated by a traditional ship craft created by the artists of 'Lafta' and insisted on buying it to learn more about its uniqueness.

Through strategic partnerships with galleries, boutiques, and online platforms, Crafts for Glory has successfully showcased the exceptional craftsmanship of its artisans to a wider audience.
