Oman, Hungary forge ties in economy, renewable energy

BUDAPEST: The meetings of the first session of the Omani-Hungarian Joint Committee concluded on Thursday in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, and lasted for two days.


The working group represented by a number of government institutions between the two friendly countries discussed prospects for cooperation between them, especially in the economic and trade fields, and the field of renewable energy and hydrogen. The agricultural sector and water management, as well as the development and transfer of science, technology, and high technologies were also discussed.


Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali al Harthy, Under-Secretary of the Foreign Ministry for Diplomatic Affairs, chaired the Omani side in the committee while on the Hungarian side it was led by Dr Tamas Varga, Deputy Minister of Defence of Hungary.


The two sides also discussed prospects for joint investment and stressed the importance of closely following up on what was discussed, and achieving the desired results for the benefit of the two friendly countries.


At the conclusion of the meetings, the two sides signed the final statement of the first round of meetings.


The committee’s meetings were attended by Ambassador Munther bin Mahfouz al Mantheri, Head of the Europe Department at the Foreign Ministry, Yusef bin Ahmed al Jabri, the non-resident ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Hungary, and representatives from a number of ministries and government institutions.


It was also attended from the Hungarian side by Bernabash Fodor, Ambassador of Hungary accredited to the Sultanate of Oman, and a number of officials of government institutions in the Republic of Hungary.


On the sidelines of his visit to the Republic of Hungary, Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali al Harthy, also met with Leventy Mayar, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Hungary, where the meeting discussed bilateral relations and regional and international issues of concern between the two friendly countries. – ONA
