On Thursday evening, the Oman Met Office officially closed the file on tropical cyclone Biparjoy as it made landfall along the Indian and Pakistani coasts.
The impact of this tropical system was evident as Biparjoy was downgraded to a tropical storm based on images and weather observations from Thursday.
The centre of the storm was predicted to cross the land area between Gujarat, India, and Karachi, Pakistan, on Thursday evening. Cloudy weather and intermittent drizzles were experienced along the coasts and mountains of Dhofar Governorate yesterday.
Furthermore, the flow of high and medium clouds persisted over parts of South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, and Dhofar governorates. Weather experts also noted the formation of clouds over the middle and eastern Al Hajar Mountains, which could potentially lead to sporadic rain.
The desert regions witnessed a significant increase in maximum temperatures, ranging from the mid to high forties. The highest temperature recorded was once again in Fahud at 48.3ºC.
The sea state was rough along the coasts of the Arabian Sea, with maximum wave heights ranging from 4 to 6 metres. Along the coasts of the Oman Sea, the sea state varied from moderate to rough, with maximum wave heights ranging from 2 to 4 metres. The wave height was slightly to moderately elevated over the coast of Musandam, with a maximum height of 1.5 metres.
Looking ahead to Friday, medium and high cloud advection is expected across most governorates.
There is a chance of isolated light rain, and cloud development is likely over Al Hajar Mountains in the afternoon. Partly cloudy skies are predicted along the coastal areas of Dhofar Governorates and adjacent mountains, with a possibility of isolated rain.
The weather forecast for Friday also indicates a possibility of dusty winds in desert and open areas.
Additionally, there may be low clouds or fog late at night to early in the morning over parts of South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates, and some coastal areas of the Oman Sea.
