Omani photographer Ahmed al Saeedi made the Sultanate of Oman proud by winning silver at Qatar’s Sports Photography Competition for 2023.
Organised by the Qatar Photography Centre, established by Qatar's Ministry of Culture, the photo competition has been developed as a focal point for the personal and professional creative growth of photographers in the region.
Speaking to Observer, Al Saeedi said, “My winning photo is of a horse rider and I got the second place in Sports Photography Competition held in Qatar."
Al Saeedi, who pocketed home a prize of QR 6,000, says, "My winning photograph is about the expression of joy of a horse rider after he won the riding competition," he adds.
The Doha-based Oman photographer is delighted to make his country proud. "I am so happy to win this prize and this is the little I can do to make my country proud," he says with glee.
The idea of the Sports photography in Qatar is inspired by the fact that Qatar is famous for organising and hosting many local and international sporting events, and it has many distinguished sports talents. The competition aims to encourage professional and amateur photographers to express their talents in sports photography.
The competition provides an opportunity to all photographers inside Qatar to participate, as the competition aims to showcase the best sports photos and motivate photographers to develop their skills in photography.
Participants can present various artworks on topics such as team and individual sports, water and air sports, the Special Olympics Games, in addition to the majestic sports facilities, celebrations, crowd emotions, and much more.
"The competition includes all kinds of sports tournaments organised within Qatar, both local and international," Al Saeedi said.
"This competition also aims to highlight Qatar's role in organising and hosting sporting events, and to raise the level of photographic awareness and an aesthetic sense among participants of all ages," he concluded.
