The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) joined forces with the Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit to host a highly successful workshop, which began at Hormuz Hotel in Airport Heights on Sunday. The 10-day-long workshop will help bolster Oman's intellectual property (IP) system and support the adoption of a comprehensive national IP strategy, marking a significant step forward for IP-related initiatives in the country.

During the workshop, Dr Saleh bin Said Masan, Undersecretary for Trade and Industry, underscored the importance of the national IP strategy. He explained that the strategy, meticulously crafted by the Ministry, aims to establish a robust national IP system that effectively manages IP, enforces laws and rights, creates valuable IP assets, stimulates the commercial exploitation of IP, and transforms intellectual assets into commercially and industrially valuable resources. The strategy also aligns with Oman Vision 2040's objective of achieving economic diversification and promoting sustainability in entrepreneurial activities.

The workshop pursues multiple primary objectives, each vital to the advancement of Oman's IP landscape. Firstly, it sought to promote the growth of Oman's IP sector, recognizing its immense potential as a catalyst for economic development. Secondly, the workshop aims to garner support for the adoption of a unified national IP strategy, ensuring a cohesive approach to IP management and enforcement. Thirdly, it aimed to fortify Oman's IP system, bolstering the protection and enforcement of IP laws and rights.

Furthermore, the workshop aims to leverage Oman's intellectual capital and assets to fuel economic growth and generate employment opportunities. By nurturing sustainability in entrepreneurial endeavors, the workshop aimed to transform intellectual assets into valuable commercial and industrial resources, endowing Oman with a competitive edge in the global marketplace. Ultimately, the workshop's overarching ambition is to contribute to economic diversification, aligning with the goals outlined in Oman Vision 2040.

The National IP Strategy aims to unlock the full potential of Oman's intellectual capital, literary and artistic works, traditional knowledge, genetic and biological assets, as well as innovations spanning various scientific domains. Additionally, the strategy actively promotes the commercial exploitation of IP rights and fosters technological advancement and innovation. These efforts align harmoniously with Oman Vision 2040's aspiration of achieving economic diversification.
