Oman, Belgium strengthen cooperation in transport, logistics and digital economy

MUSCAT: Eng Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, on Friday met in Muscat with Hadja Lahbib, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, Foreign Trade and the Federal Cultural Institutions in the Kingdom of Belgium, and her accompanying delegation.


During the meeting, they discussed strengthening the existing cooperation between the two friendly countries, reviewing the investment opportunities available in the ports of the Sultanate of Oman, the available infrastructure therein, green mobility initiatives in partnership with the private sector, in addition to discussing aspects of cooperation in the fields of metro and the semiconductor industry, and exchanging knowledge and experiences between the two sides. In addition to highlighting some successful experiences.


The meeting was attended by Eng Khamis bin Mohammed al Shamakhi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport, Pascal Gregory, Ambassador-Designate of the Kingdom of Belgium to the Sultanate of Oman, Reggie Vermeulen, Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Belgium to the Sultanate of Oman, and a number of officials from both sides.

MEETS BADR: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, also received in Muscat on Friday Hadja Lahbib, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, Foreign Trade and the Federal Cultural Institutions in the Kingdom of Belgium.


During the meeting, the guest minister conveyed greetings of King of the Belgians to His Majesty the Sultan.


She extended thanks for the efforts made by Oman to secure the release of the Belgian citizen, as well as an Austrian citizen and a Danish citizen.


As far as the bilateral relations between Oman and Belgium are concerned, the two ministers lauded the progress witnessed by these relations in various economic, trade, investment and cultural areas. They also commended the cooperation between Duqm Port and the Port of Antwerp, stressing the importance of expanding the cooperation to cover other fields, particularly in the renewable energy projects and green hydrogen production.


The two sides also underlined the joint keenness to expand cultural, academic and student exchange programmes and cooperation in the fields of science and technology, as well as promoting tourism and investment opportunities between the two countries.


The meeting further discussed the developments at the regional and international arenas.


In this context, both sides affirmed that they will continue exchanging views on these developments, stemming from the joint keenness to come up with peaceful solutions for various issues in a way that maintains security and stability.
