7 hospitalised in two house fire incidents in Muscat

Muscat: The firefighting teams of the Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority in the Governorate of Muscat put out a fire that broke out in a house in the Al-Ghubrah area in the Wilayat of Bausher on Saturday.


Emergency medical care was provided to five people as a result of smoke inhalation, and they were shifted to the hospital.


Their health is said to be stable.

On Friday, the CDAA team managed to put out a fire that broke out in n apartment in one of the buildings in the Al Khuwair area in the Wilayat of Bashar, and as a result, two women were taken to the hospital after inhaling smoke.


Their health condition is said to be in a moderate condition.



According to CDAA, the main reasons for house fires include not closing the gas cylinder after completion of cooking or when leaving the house, storage of flammable materials, children playing with lighters and matches, smoking and throwing cigarette butts on materials, and using flammable building materials for interior decorations, ensuring the safety and maintenance of electrical connections and gas installations, avoiding the use of grills and charcoal tools indoors, making sure electrical outlets are not overloaded and avoid placing electrical wires over furniture or under carpets.


The Sultanate reported 4,058 fire-related incidents in 2021, compared to 3,409in 2020, 3,864 in 2019, 4,602 in 2018 and 4,748 in 2017.


According to the Statistical Yearbook of the National Centre of Statistics and Information(NCSI), 1,353 incidents, or 33.3 percent of the total cases were reported in Muscat in 2021, followed by 904 cases in North Batinah, 379 cases in AlDhakilyah, 342 in South Batinah and 214 in South Sharqiyah.


Overall, nearly 29.3 percent of cases were reported from housing facilities, 20.1 percent from vehicles, and 21.3 percent from residues.
