MUSCAT: To facilitate smooth traffic movement, Muscat Municipality will soon implement a new project on the service road, adjacent to the main Sultan Qaboos Street in Al Khuwair by converting the service road into a one-way road.
In a statement, Muscat Municipality said the project includes converting approximately six kilometres of service roads into one-way roads with two lanes in one direction, starting from the intersection of Al Khuwair Street until the intersection of Ministries Street (below the bridge).
"The project includes the construction of two additional entry points to the main Sultan Qaboos Street in the middle of the road along the service road, as well as at the end of the service road to reduce extra commuting times," Muscat Municipality stated.
It added that the project aims at converting a number of side roads into one-way roads in order to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and congestion in one direction, which will help avoid traffic hazards and side turns, reduce noise, raise traffic efficiency, and facilitate movement, and access between inner neighbourhoods and surrounding areas.
The project also aims to serve public facilities, enhance commercial activity in the region, in addition to developing and improving the region, and adding aesthetic touches to it.
