Muscat: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) revealed on Sunday the preliminary lists of candidates for membership of the Shura Council for the tenth term.According to the ministry, the total number of candidates are 883, including 33 women.
The 10th term of the candidature has seen an increase of 116 candidates from the 9thterm, which saw a total of 767 candidates. In contrast, the total number of female candidates has seen a drop compared with the ninth term of shura election as they were 43.
In an online statement, the ministry said people could view the preliminary list through the elections website (elections.om) and the Intakhib application.
Meanwhile, it is permissible to object to the names included in the preliminary lists of candidates via an application submitted through the election website within five days from the date of its announcement.
To take it into account, reasons behind the objection attached with the supporting documents are requested, the ministry noted.
The preliminary lists show that Al Dakhiliya tops other governorates in the number of candidates with (111), followed by Muscat (108), then Dhofar (255), North Al Batinah (84), Al Wusta (74), South Al Sharqiya (60), South Al Batinah (58), North Al Sharqiya (57), Al Dahira (32), Musandam (22) and Al Buraimi (22).
