MUSCAT: Wholly Omani-owned Asyad Shipping has announced plans to expand its shipping lines to Indonesia, a move that is expected to strengthen the company’s position in the global shipping industry. Last year, Asyad Shipping expands its presence in the Southeast Asian region by adding shipping routes to Singapore and Port Kelang in Malaysia.
Asyad’s expansion in Indonesia was marked by cooperation agreement between Asyad, PT IPC Container Terminal and KCA Global Maritime Company signed on May 23, Indonesian newspaper Bisnis reported over the weekend.
Kim Aksel Kristensen, Sr Vice- President at Asyad Shipping, said, “This collaboration aims to strengthen the bilateral relations between Oman and Indonesia in terms of economy and distribution of goods.”
The decision to expand the shipping lines to Indonesia comes as a result of the growing demand for shipping services in the country. Indonesia is the world’s fourth most populous country and has a rapidly growing economy, which has led to an increase in trade and shipping activity in the region.
“Asyad Shipping relies on 3 units of ships with a capacity of 4,000-5,500 containers and Indonesia is deemed appropriate to become a hub for cargo circulation pattern, which has been mostly carried out in Malaysia and Singapore,” Kristensen added.
Asyad Shipping — part of Asyad Group — selected Port of Tanjung Priok as a capable port both in terms of infrastructure and facilities. The Asyad Line ship is scheduled to arrive and sail for the first time in the third week of June 2023, the report added.
Asyad Shipping will cooperate with the KCA Global Maritime Company as the official representative in Indonesia to serve cargo routes from Indonesia to the Middle East, Red Sea and India Sub Continent, while also promoting the main export product of Indonesia — the coconut charcoal briquettes.
Bobby Asnani, CEO of PT KCA Global Maritime, hopes that export activities and Indonesian cooperation to the Middle East will progress with the Asyad Line which provides shorter and more economical shipping services.
“This collaboration is also considered to further increase the selling power and competitiveness of Indonesian commodities in the world,” Asnani added.
The expansion of Asyad Shipping’s routes to Indonesia is expected to bring significant benefits to the company. It will enable Asyad Shipping to tap into a new market and expand its customer base, which will ultimately lead to increased revenue and profitability.
In addition, the expansion of shipping lines to Indonesia will help Asyad Shipping to diversify its business, reducing its reliance on the Middle East market. This will help the company to mitigate the risks associated with operating in a single market and ensure its long-term sustainability.
