Muscat: The State Council and Majlis A' Shura will hold on Tuesday the first joint session of the fourth session of the seventh term and discuss the articles of disagreement between the two councils in the draft Labor, Social Protection, and Biometric Fingerprint laws.
It may be noted that Article 50 of the Law of the Council of Oman stipulates that draft laws that have an urgent nature are referred by the Council of Ministers to the Majlis A' Shura for approval or amendment within a maximum of one month from the date of referral to it, then they are referred to the State Council for approval and amend it within a maximum of one month from the date of referral to it.
If the two councils disagree about the project, they may form a joint committee to discuss the differences, and the committee submits its report to the two councils for discussion in a joint session chaired by the President of the State Council and at his invitation, then vote on the project in the same session, and decisions are issued by the absolute majority of the members present.
The article also stipulates that in all cases the head of the State Council shall submit the draft to His Majesty the Sultan, accompanied by the opinion of the two councils.
