Muscat: The Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) said on Sunday it has dealt with social media reports about a physical abuse case at one of the rehabilitation centres for children with disabilities.
In an online statement, the ministry said it has received a report saying that some disabled children were physically assaulted by some specialists working at one of the disabled rehabilitation centers.
A special team from the ministry visited the center to study and find the details of the incident.
Accordingly, the ministry has suspended services provided by the center until further notice and referred the suspects to the competent authorities for investigation.
Meanwhile, the ministry affirmed its keen interest in caring for children with disabilities, preserving their psychological and physical safety, and continuous follow-up on providing the best rehabilitation services.
The Ministry also stated that it receives reports of abuse complaints through the Ministry's call center 1555, in addition to the number designated for child protection.
