The Oman Across Ages Museum hosted the 20th Students’ Forum on Tuesday. The event saw attendance from academic and administrative staff from various branches of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences UTAS), employees of public and private sectors, and students.

The day kicked off with a workshop titled ‘Your Way to Build a Brand’ conducted by the renowned branding expert Professor Rayyan Abdullah, Dean of the Fine Arts College in Leipzig, Germany. Professor Rayyan shared insights on the mental process of designing and the importance of being an open-minded traveller to discover the magic of different countries worldwide, which in turn helps to renew the designer’s energy.

He explained that designing is the biggest philosophy of a company in the smallest space given, using examples from his experience working on highly acclaimed companies such as Volkswagen and the German Federal Eagle.

Professor Rayyan also spoke on designing unique fonts for various brands and emphasised the need to create meaningful, visual, distinctive, protectable, positive and future-oriented designs.

The second workshop, “Branding Visual Identity,” was delivered by visual communication and identity specialist Waseem Qaddora. He discussed the difference between brand and brand identity and covered essential elements of branding and brand naming. Waseem explained that in today’s world, a brand logo is the most crucial aspect of any business, and sometimes the branding of a logo costs more than designing it.

The third workshop, ‘How to Make Reels,’ was presented by Jawaher al Kharusi, a student from UTAS Nizwa. She explained how to make creative reels, the obstacles that reel makers might face, and how to overcome them. Attendees expressed happiness about the workshop and how it improved their reel-making skills.
