Muscat: The Royal Hospital is exerting extensive efforts to cut down waiting lists for patients who need surgeries and x-rays. The hospital is undertaking many initiatives and adding health staff to keep pace with the growth of professional operations at a time that health establishments in Oman, like other parts of the world, were impacted by circumstances of Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr Amid Khamis al Araimi, Assistant Director General for Medical Affairs at the Royal Hospital, told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the hospital operated a room for surgical operations during the evening period and 4 rooms during the weekend.

In 2022, those efforts enabled the hospital to conduct about 850 surgeries, some which took place during the evening and weekends, said Dr Amid. He added that the efforts contributed significantly to reducing the number of patients on waiting lists.

In addition, the Royal Hospital introduced a lot of organizational procedures to organize and improve the services rendered to patients, Dr Amid affirmed.

In addition, continuous coordination was made with private institutions to provide the Royal Hospital with various types of devices that serve patients in need. As part of such cooperation, 20 new apparatuses were installed at the obstetrics and gynaecology department in the hospital, Dr Amid explained.
