NEW YORK: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the National Survey Authority (NSA) at the Ministry of Defence, took part in the third session of the United Nations Group of Foreign Experts on Geographical Names (UNGEGN), which was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, USA.


The Sultanate of Oman headed the delegation of the Arab Division of Experts on Geographical Names participating in the third session of the Group of Foreign Experts on Geographical Names in its capacity as the First Vice-President.


The session focused on the importance of these names as a culture, heritage and identity, in addition to standardising their spelling at both the national and international levels and discussed the methods of collecting geographical names and the role of authorities and committees concerned with geographical names in preserving and unifying them.


The Sultanate of Oman also presented a report on its activities and achievements in the field of geographical names during the period from 2021 to 2023. — ONA
