Al Suwaiq earned a vital win against Oman club 1-0 to remain in contention for the Omantel League title during the 23rd round match at Al Suwaiq Stadium on Wednesday.
The match was a thrilling encounter that saw Esam al Subhi score the only goal of the game from a penalty kick in the fifth minute of the additional time.
The excitement of the winning goal was further increased by the fact that Al Subhi had missed another penalty kick in the 26th minute. The win put Al Suwaiq (48 points) four points adrift of leaders Al Nahda on 48 points with only three rounds to go in the league.
Oman Club remain in sixth place with 35 points. The defeat kept them away from fourth-placed Al Rustaq by five points.
AL ORUBA EDGE BAHLA
Al Oruba Club rekindled their chances of staying in the Omantel League after their thrilling 4-3 victory against Bahla Club in a high-scoring encounter at Sur Complex Stadium.
The match witnessed a total of seven goals, with Bahla taking an early lead through Abdulhameed al Mandhari and professional San San Hasumi.
Al Oruba turned the match on its head by scoring four goals in less than half an hour during the second half. Frank scored two goals, while Youssef Saleh and Al Asem Anbar also got on the scoresheet for Al Oruba. Bahla narrowed the gap with a goal from Abdulhameed al Mandhari, but it wasn't enough to prevent the defeat.
With this victory, Al Oruba raised their tally to 16 points and revived hope, albeit weakly, in the competition to stay in the league, as it separated them from Al Ittihad by one point, and from Sur (ranked 11th) by five points.
Bahla are now in eighth place with 32 points after the defeat.
