Al Musanaa: Acting in cooperation with the Civil Aviation Authority and telecommunications service providers, the Communications Regulatory Authority (TRA) on Wednesday conducted the first real trial of an early warning broadcast service in the Wilayat of Al Musanaa, South Al Batinah Governorate.
The service was launched via mobile phones. Sub-committees were distributed in various coastal areas of the Wilayat to ensure that warning messages were received. The committee checked whether the warning messages reached subscribers of Omani Telecommunications Company (Omantel) and Omani Qatari Company (Ooredoo) in the same wilayat.
The experiment targets a number of coastal wilayats and regions. It covers the governorates of South Al Batinah, South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, Muscat, Dhofar, Musandam and North Al Batinah.
As per the trial service, warning messages about a specific emergency situation are sent to subscribers’ phones in record time and in accordance with international standards. They are sent in the form of specific tones that appear automatically on a subscriber’s phone.
