RUSTAQ: The heritage guesthouses and inns in the South al Batinah Governorate are very popular with tourists as they offer an option for accommodation at affordable prices, apart from being a source of income for citizens.
The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) has been encouraging citizens to invest in heritage and green guesthouses to add value to the tourism sector in the Sultanate of Oman.
Dr Al Mutasem bin Nasser al Hilali, Director of the Heritage and Tourism Department, in South Al Batinah Governorate, said that the total number of existing projects in the governorate is 21 distributed across three out of six wilayats in the governorate.
The Wilayat of Barka has 14 heritage guesthouses, Rustaq 5 and Nakhal 2 facilities constituting 32.3 per cent of the total residential facilities in the governorate.
He said eight guesthouses are under construction in South al Batinah - four in Barka, three in Nakhal, and one in Rustaq.
The ministry licenses such guesthouses to encourage Omani investors to set up medium and small projects that serve the tourism
