Indian state holds Model G20 summit

Muscat; A Model G20 Summit was held at in the Indian city of Srinagar on Friday, organized by the Department of Tourism that brought together 60 participants from various universities across Jammu and Kashmir to discuss sustainable tourism and the challenges facing different countries.


The summit was presided over by Dr. Abid Rasheed Shah, Secretary to the Government of J&K, Department of Tourism and Culture, who extended his congratulations to the participants. He said, "It is an honor to host an event of such prestige in J&K, and I am confident that this event will serve as a stepping stone for the younger generation, opening up more opportunities for them in the future."


The event was graced by several Government officials, including Mr. Faz-Lul-Haseeb, Director of Tourism, Kashmir, and Javid Bakshi, Director, SKICC. Faculty members from the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Central University of Kashmir(CUK), Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), and University of Kashmir (KU) were also present.


During the event, the participants represented their respective G20 countries and actively participated in deliberations and negotiations. The discussions primarily focused on the Tourism Priority Areas, such as Sustainable Tourism Practices and Gender Equity & Women in Tourism.


One of the participants, Saifullah Khan, a student of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), said, "The event was an excellent opportunity to gain knowledge and develop new skills. It provided us with a platform to express our opinions and learn from the diverse perspectives of other participants."


Another participant, Alisha Ahmad, a student of the Central University of Kashmir(CUK), said, "I learned a lot from this event, especially about the G20 and its working mechanisms. The Model Summit has helped me understand the importance of sustainable tourism practices and how we can promote gender equity in the tourism industry."


The Model G20 Summit served as a valuable platform for the participants to enhance their understanding of the G20 and the issues it addresses. It provided a unique opportunity for the participants to hone their negotiation and diplomacy skills, which are essential in today's globalized world.
