Oslo - Omani adventurer Suleiman bin Hamoud al Naabi has reached the highest mountain peak in the Svalbard archipelago in the Arctic (Mount Newton summit), which is approximately 1,700 meters above sea level.
Al-Naabi said, "The adventure began on April 12 and I was able to first reach the (Longyearbyen) region of the Svalbard archipelago in the Arctic. He said environmental and climatic conditions were difficult to describe but it was one of the most challenging and he was determined to climb to the top of Mount Newton.
He said temperatures at this summit are as low as -40, in addition to the poor visibility due to sudden snowfall with strong winds, which requires covering the eyes with special glasses. There was also the presence of animals like the bear, arctic wolf, and foxes requiring the adventurer to be careful and alert at all times.
