The Sultanate of Oman is ranked the safest country in the world to travel alone, according to a study conducted by the travel portal EnjoyTravel.

“Travelling solo can be daunting enough let alone travelling as a lone woman. Many of us dream to explore our grand and diverse world. However, is it worth gallivanting out into the unknown if our safety is at huge risk? Travelling as a solo woman doesn’t have to be as terrifying as we think. With the correct research and precautions, you’ll be able to explore far and wide without encountering any horrible experiences,” EnjoyTravel said.

The twenty safest countries from around the world for women travelling alone are compiled using eight criteria: Crime and safety index, the proportion of women experiencing violence, the number of women murdered, domestic violence legislation, the proportion of women feeling safe on the street at night, attitudes towards violence against for women, public transport and taxi safety, as well as the Global Gender Gap Report. The maximum number of points a country could get is 60, and the Sultanate of Oman received a perfect score of 60, thus emerging as the safest country in the world for women to travel alone.

“After taking into consideration all of the important factors for female safety — The Sultanate of Oman is leading the way. The female homicide rate is one of the lowest in the world, and Oman falls into the ‘very low’ category when it comes to overall crime, with a crime index score of under 20,” the travel portal said.

“Women in Oman are encouraged to pursue higher education, to a point that they now outnumber men in higher education institutions. In addition, the government has launched several initiatives to raise awareness about women’s rights. You can trust to be safe and looked after in this country, with the Omani people’s famously warm hospitality and friendly attitude,” it added.

The study is no surprise as the world data encyclopedia, Numbeo, ranked the Sultanate of Oman as one of the safest countries in the world, having one of the lowest crime indexes with 19.7 points (out of 100) and one of the highest safety index in the world with 80.3 points (out of 100).
