TRA grants permit for IoT services in the electricity sector

Muscat: The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has issued a permit to provide Internet of Things (IoT) services to the Electricity Holding Company (EHC) to employ technology in related services such as the installation of smart electricity meters and remote consumption reading.


The decision aims to enable the provision of smart and innovative services to beneficiaries and also boost the economy by offering and investment opportunities in smart city applications.


Through this permit, the company will be able to install and manage smart meters and provide the electricity distribution companies with the actual reading on a regular basis without the need to visit homes and buildings.
