Seeb trounce Al Suwaiq

Defending champions Seeb claimed three crucial points in style at the Al Rustaq Sports Complex as they outplayed second placed Al Suwaiq 3-0 in 21st week matches of 2022-23 Omantel League match late on Thursday. The defeat kept Al Suwaiq's credit at 42 points behind leaders Al Nahda, who will have now an advantage to increase the gap and get closer to the long-awaited league title. The victory took Seeb to fourth position with 35 points.


After a goalless draw in the first half, Abdulaziz al Maqbali broke the deadlock as he netted the opening goal and took Seeb to lead when he found the net in the 63rd minute. Al Maqbali received a perfect cross from Ahmed al Siyabi and he converted by header to the goal. Later, Ibrahim Sumra’s battalion pressed hard in the rivals half to restore parity. However, all the attempts by striker Issam al Subhi and his team-mates did not go past Seeb’s goalkeeper Mutasim al Wahaibi.

On the other hand, Seeb strikers continued efforts to enhance their lead as they managed with a similar scenario to add another goal in the second half by header from Ahmed al Siyabi who received a cross from Marwan Taeeb in the 83rd minute. In the dying minutes, substitute Sameer al Hatmi confirmed Seeb’s triumph as he scored the third goal in the 96th minute after penetrating inside the box and sending a ground ball towards the net of Suwaiq’s goalie Fayez al Rushaidi.


BAHLA HOLD OMAN CLUB


Oman Club and Bahla played out a goalless draw at the Nizwa Sports Complex on Thursday night. The draw raised one point for each team and kept them in the same credit at 32 points with Oman club in sixth position by goal difference while Bahla in seventh place. With five more rounds to go, both teams have the chance to go up and compete among the four top teams in the league order.


Before Eid break, Seeb will face Al Oruba while Al Suwaiq will be in a tight assignment as they take on Dhofar on Tuesday. Seeb have a postponed match that will be played on April 27 against Suhar while Al Nahda will meet Al Ittihad on the same day.
