Salalah giants Dhofar snatched a crucial 1-0 win over hosts Suhar at the Suhar Sports Complex late on Wednesday for the week 21 of Omantel League. The only goal in the match was scored by Brazilian professional player Welmerson in the 28th minute from the penalty spot.

The triumph meant that Dhofar jumped to the fifth position with 33 points temporarily while Suhar are eighth with 29 points. This is the second successive win for Dhofar after their win against Oman Club in the last round by 4-1 at Al Saada Stadium.

Al Oruba registered their second victory in the league as they edged neighbours Sur 1-0 in the Southern Al Sharqiyah derby. The first win registered for Al Oruba in the league this season was on April 3 as they won 2-1 against Al Bashayer in week 20.

At the Sur Sports Complex, Frank William netted the winner for Al Oruba to deliver three crucial points for the Sur-based team. Frank missed a penalty in the 46th minute as Sur goalkeeper Sultan al Raqadi saved the penalty shot.

The victory raised Al Oruba’s credit to 13 points in the 13th position.

AL ORUBA STILL IN DANGER ZONE

Despite the victory, Al Oruba are placed in the relegation zone with five more rounds to go. Only 15 points are remaining for Al Oruba to revive their chances and remain in the top-tier league. Sur remained in their previous credit of 20 points in 11th position.

The week 22 of the top-tier league will feature strong fixtures as Oman Club will meet Al Musannah while Al Nasr will face Sur. In another tight clash, Al Ittihad will take on Al Bashayer at Al Saada Stadium. All these matches will be held on Monday.

On the following day, Bahla will meet Suhar while Seeb will host Al Oruba in the Seeb Stadium and Dhofar will meet Al Suwaiq. Al Nahda will clash against Al Rustaq at Al Buraimi Sports Complex.
