Masirah teams dominate in U21 beach volleyball

Masirah teams in men and women categories dominated in the Youth (U21) Beach Volleyball Championship which concluded in Suhar late on Sunday.


Masriah A team clinched the men’s title after they defeated Al Khaleej team 2-0 late on Sunday at the sands court in the Suhar Puplic Park. Masriah’s duo of Saud al Mahruqi and Qusai al Balushi blanked their opponents Abdulbasit al Balushi and Mohammed al Tubi 21-18 and 21-17 to lift the first edition title of the tournament.


Masriah B team players took the third place awards as they stunned Seeb 2-1 in the third and fourth play-off. The winners team was represented by Mazin al Shabibi and Ahed al Jabri while Seeb’s team comprised of Saleh al Jalbobi and Tamim al Jabri. The first set ended in favour of Masirah 22-20 after tough competition while Seeb equalised in the following set to win it 21-17. In the deciding set, Masirah team pair confirmed their victory by winning the set by 15-9.

WOMEN’S TITLE


In the women’s category competitions played in league format, Qurayat A team claimed the trophy and gold medals as they topped the league table order. Masirah B team ended as runners-up while Masirah A team finished in third place. Qurayat B team and Fanja came in the fourth and fifth positions respectively.


After the conclusion of the final match, chief guest Dawood bin Suleiman al Shizawi, Chairman of Suhar club, presented the awards and trophies to the top winners. The final ceremony of the tournament was attended by Eng Ibrahim al Maqbali, Chairman of Oman Volleyball Association (OVA), along with a number of invitees.


The four days event featured participation of 16 teams distributed into four groups as Group A featured Al Seeb, Al Batinah, Al Qaran and Qurayat C teams. Group B comprised Qurayat A, Suhar, Al Suwaiq and Al Kifaah teams. Masirah B headed Group C besides Al Khaleej, Masirah C and Al Kuhwairiah teams. Group D featured Qurayat B, Masirah A, Al Qalaa and Al Shabab teams. Besides that seven more women’s teams are taking part in the tournament.


The objective of the tournament, run by the OVA, was to explore for new faces and youth players who are born from 2003 and above to join the national teams and represent Oman in the external participation.


Northern Batinah city, Suhar, was the hosts for the international world class event represented by Oman Beach Pro Tour Future which was held under organisation of OVA in coordination with FIVB, the world governing body of volleyball in last November. It is expected that OVA will organise another mega volleyball event later this year and the details will be unveiled soon.
