MUSCAT: The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority announced the opening of registration for the third edition of the on-the-job-training initiative implemented by the Authority in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour, on Sunday.

The initiative aims at preparing national competencies by subjecting job-seekers to specialized training programmes to help them acquire the skills required.

The Ministry of Labour pays monthly benefits to 2,000 trainees for a year as follows: RO 500 for college graduates, RO 400 for university diploma holders and RO 300 for the holders of general education diploma certificates.

The Ministry of Labour approved 3,236 training opportunities in the first edition of the initiative in 2021 and 3,000 training opportunities in 2022 benefiting a total of 1,171 SMEs across various sectors notably education, administration, health, tourism and technology.

The selection for the training programme will be done from among the job-seekers registered with the Ministry of Labour or from the names suggested by the enterprise. The enterprise then registered a trainer’s contract on the ministry’s system and the Public Authority for Social Insurance.
