Ramadhan is going by fast and soon we will see it gone. We wish it lasted forever because the month never fails to uplift spiritually.

During Ramadhan, it is important to engage with the Holy Quran more than we normally do because it is the month when it was revealed to mankind.

It is best if every Muslim pledge to start reciting the Quran or complete the entire holy book within this month. But this can be quite challenging for those who pretend to be busy.

According to the people of knowledge, reciting the Quran during Ramadhan brings people closer to their creator. “Reading the Quran during Ramadhan brings about a great sense of responsibility towards Allah which we do not realise at other times. As we delve deeper into the words of Allah we realise that the Quran is a constant reminder that we must act according to the commandments of Allah,” Naser al Jahdhami, Imam of a mosque in Al Ghubra, said.

In this era when time is never enough for anyone, most Muslims hardly find time to read the Quran. Sadly, it has merely become an adornment on shelves. However, Ramadhan brings the divine opportunity to bring ourselves closer to Allah through the Quran.

Ramadhan is a blessed month. Allah’s wisdom decreed that He revealed the Quran on one of the most blessed nights in Ramadhan – Laylat al Qadr or the Night of Decree.

Allah, the Almighty, says, “Indeed, we sent it down during a blessed night.” (Surat ad Dukhan: 3).

Religious leaders tell worshippers that fasting and reciting the Quran are the best path to piety and fear of Allah.

Thus, whoever fasts in Ramadhan, recites the Quran, reflects upon its teachings and obeys its rulings will, by Allah’s grace, achieve piety – and ultimately – happiness in this world and the Hereafter.

“There is no better way to spend your Ramadhan than remembering Allah. Quran acts as a reminder to purify oneself. Allah says in the Quran: "A Book, which We have revealed to you in order that its verses may be pondered upon, so that the people of understanding may be reminded."

"That is what Allah hopes for mankind to achieve, a constant reminder of their faith, of the Oneness of Allah and of the Day of Judgment,” Ali Khalfan, a student, said.

It is important to note that our relationship with the Quran this month should not be limited to just the nightly Taraweeh prayers, but we must devote ourselves to studying the holy book outside of prayer as well.
