Semifinals line-up ready for OJA Ramadhan tourney

MUSCAT: The Oman Journalists Association’s (OJA) Ramadhan football tournament entered to the exciting final rounds as the semifinals matches are scheduled to take place on Sunday at the Al Hilal team artificial greenfield in Azaiba.


In the first encounter, Oman News Agency (ONA) team will meet Oman Daily newspaper and the match will kick off at 10 pm while Shabiba team will take on Oman Radio team at 11 pm.


Competition is heating up at the OJA Ramadhan football tournament as all the qualified teams in the semifinals will aim to progress into the final match. It is expected that all the matches will very tough as the win means moving to the last step while the defeat will exit the team from the competition.


ONA team, one of the nominees for the title, topped Group A by registering full mark of nine points from three matches. They defeated Oman TV 4-1, blanked Oman Radio 1-0 and won against OJA 4-1 in third game. Oman Radio team came in second with six points as they recorded two victories against Oman TV 2-0 and OJA with 3-0 score.



In the other group, Shabiba team, another nominee for the title, earned the first spot as they managed to earn nine points from three games. They stunned Oman Daily newspaper 3-1 and then won against Galfar company 2-1 before edging Administration and Finance team of Ministry of Information 5-3 in the concluding round of group stage. Oman Daily finished in second place and moved to the next round as they captured six points. They registered a 3-0 win over Galfar team and then beat Administration and Finance team of Ministry of Information 4-1.


This edition of the tournament featured participation of eight teams distributed into two groups and each group comprised of four teams. The Group A comprised Oman TV, Oman News Agency, Oman Journalists Association and Oman Radio. The Group B featured Finance and Administrative team of Ministry of Information, Galfar Company (media team), Oman Daily newspaper and Shabiba newspaper. The ten days tournament is being run under organisation of OJA represented by Sports Media committee.


The final match of the tournament will take place on Tuesday and the third and fourth play-off will be held on the same day. The organising team has allocated top prizes for the top winners besides special awards for the individuals including the best valuable player, the top scorer and the best goalkeeper.
