Muscat: Eng.Saeed bin Hamoud bin Saeed Al Mawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said there was a Royal Order by His Majesty to assign a specialized consultant tasked to probe the state of Oman Air.

This came during the Shura Council's hosting of the transport minister, where he said the consultant has been already appointed and a study has been made to set a strategy that would help improve the performance of Oman Air.

According to Al Mawali, a meeting with the consultant is scheduled to be held next week, after which he will work for three months initially to produce the first report that draws a roadmap for working with executive management.

In his statement, His Excellency stressed that following the upcoming meeting, the ministry will be able to look into the necessary options in June, adding that the Oman Air's performance is not satisfactory, but there is a desire from the Board of Directors and the executive management as well as the Investment Authority to improve its performance.

“There is a difference in what countries choose about airlines, and in the Sultanate of Oman, the airline’s revenues are separated from those of the airport and transit companies, etc. Therefore, it is necessary to wait and see the consultant’s observation in this regard”, the minister said.
