Nizwa dominate Oman Club to reach semis

Nizwa Club secured a place in the semifinals of the 13th edition of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth Basketball Shield 2022-23, after defeating Oman Club 76-44 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher on Sunday.


The match was marked by Nizwa's technical prowess and strategic focus, as the team capitalised on early opportunities to take the lead. Akim Smart's two shots from under the basket put Nizwa ahead by four points, and the team continued to take advantage of Oman Club's mistakes, with Faisal al Jamudi scoring three points to widen the gap. Sami al Ghailani and Hussain al Kindi scored four points for Oman Club, but Nizwa responded with five points from Adel al Battashi and Akim Smart to lead 13-7. Nizwa added nine points in the first quarter, while Oman Club scored five, resulting in Nizwa leading 20-12.


SUPERIOR SHOW


In the second quarter, Nizwa Club maintained their offensive and defensive superiority, scoring 26 points and widening the difference, while Oman Club added 14 points, bringing the score to 47-26 by half-time.


Nizwa Club's dominance continued in the third quarter, scoring 20 points while disrupting most of Oman Club's attacks, who only managed to score nine points. The third quarter ended with Nizwa ahead of Oman Club with a score of 67-35.


In the fourth quarter, Oman Club improved their performance, but the result remained in Nizwa's favour, with both teams scoring nine points each, making the final score 76-44 in favour of Nizwa Club.


The match was moderated by the international referees, Issam al Siyabi as the first referee, Rashid al Mashrafi as the second referee, and Wafaa al Samria as the third referee. Jumaa al Hinai, Mahmoud al Ajmi and Sharifa al Zadjali were the officials at the table.


Nizwa Club's impressive performance guarantees their qualification for the semifinals of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth Basketball Shield, accompanied by Al Bashayer in their group. The victory is a testament to the team's technical skills, strong focus, and ability to capitalise on opportunities.
