Eight teams to vie for OJA Ramadhan football tourney title

MUSCAT: As many as eight teams will vie on the Oman Journalists Association’s (OJA) Ramadhan football tournament which will begin on Monday. All the confirmed eight teams are divided into two groups and each group featured from four teams. The Group A comprises Oman TV, Oman News Agency, Oman Journalists Association and Oman Radio. The Group B features Finance and administrative team of Ministry of Information, Galfar Company (media team), Omandaily newspaper and Shabiba newspaper.


The ten days tournament will run under organisation of OJA represented by Sports Media committee at Al Hilal team greenfield in Azaiba. The opening day of the Ramadhan football tournament will feature four matches on Monday.


In Group A, Oman TV team will take on Oman News Agency team and the match will kick off at 10 pm while OJA will meet Oman Radio team and the game will start at 11 pm. In Group B matches, Finance and administrative team of Ministry of Information team will play against Galfar company at 10 pm while Omandaily team will face Shabiba newspaper team at 11 pm.



The draw of the tournament took place last week at the OJA headquarters in presence of Salim Hamed al Jahwari, Vice-Chairman of OJA and head of Sports Media committee and some representatives of participated teams. Al Jahwari stated that this is the second consecutive edition of the tournament as OJA is very keen to hold this kind of sports activities during the year. “The football tournaments among the teams representing different media channel is an opportunity to build the relationship between them. Also, the event is a great chance to discover the top potential players. We wish good luck to all the participated teams,” he said.


Later, Fadhil Rabee al Mazroui, member of Sports Media Committee and head of the tournament organising team explained the rules and regulations of the tournament. The playing format will be in league system from one round during the group stage. The top two teams in each group will advance to the semifinals. Each team will comprise 12 players and four officials including coach, assistant coach, manager and medical treatment specialist. The match will be for 40 minutes while each half is for 20 minutes including ten minutes break in between.


The organising team has allocated top prizes for the top winners besides special awards for the individuals including the best valuable player, the top scorer and the best goalkeeper.
