Everyone is aware of the importance of wheat as a strategic commodity in our daily life. It is the most important food item in the entire world. Therefore, it is always on our tables in one form or the other. Wheat is always present in our food either as a whole or in some shape. All the governments and countries everywhere in the world try to ensure that they are never devoid of it. It is essential part of the food security strategy everywhere in the world. There are always efforts to ensure that sufficient wheat is stored in facilities to be used for six months. It shows the importance of the commodity. The efforts made by Oman Flour Mills to guarantee that multiple sources of purchasing of wheat remain available always, are commendable. At the same time, the company is also focussed on buying huge quantities of wheat from local farmers in Oman. This encourages farmers to take up wheat farming.

Oman Flour Mills has also purchased wheat directly from Australian farmers and has made an Oman-Australian joint venture for this purpose. This has reduced the hassle of imports of wheat and its price. These efforts are giving results. It is an out of the box idea which has made things easy for all.

Wheat which is always available on our dinning table is easy to get and that too at reasonable price. But we do not know the efforts made to ensure that our dinning tables are never devoid of this important commodity.

Oman Flour Mills company is working since 1977 to ensure that all wheat requirements of the local market is met without any hindrance. It has developed and evolved ways to procure this commodity through various means. It has used the most modern technology as well as highly developed business models to ensure that there is no scarcity in the country.

Perhaps the import of 34,000 tonnes of wheat from Australia shows that how dexterity Oman Flour Mills is playing the role in the country and directly procuring wheat from abroad. It saves time, money and efforts. At the time when the world is reeling under the circumstances caused by the war on Ukraine, the planning of the Oman Flour Mills shows its wise thinking and planning.

Undoubtedly, wheat may be seen by some as easy to get at affordable prices, but there are also those who do not know the secrets of the complex processes that take place behind the efforts to get the commodity, and there are more than 17 supply chains until it reaches the last consumer.

All these chains add cost to the commodity as a matter of course, which is what Omani mills sought to reduce in the least possible manner to the extent that they now import it from overseas farms to Omani silos via large ships that transport thousands of tonnes in a move that is the first of its kind in the Middle East. The company's management takes it as part of its efforts to secure wheat for local markets.

In fact, the Omani mills have been working since 1977 to secure the needs of the Omani markets for wheat of all kinds, and developed ways of working in this field in quantity and quality through different methods and purely scientific techniques that contribute in selecting the best types, while at the same time strictly adhering to quality through advanced food laboratories, and applying international standards in this matter, which does not accept half-solutions, considering it a concern for human health in this dear country.

These are just a few efforts out of many such moves made by Oman Flour Mills to ensure that our food basket is never empty of such an important commodity. From purchasing from the local farmers to procuring from abroad is required as part of the multi-layered strategy which is formulated by this company. It purchased wheat at RO 500 per ton from local farmers so that these farmers are encouraged to cultivate more of wheat. It brought Omani wheat products also to encourage them. We are confident that these efforts made by the Oman Flour Mills will also be successful.
