During the holy month of Ramadhan, many students find themselves juggling the demands of studying and fasting. Balancing the two can be challenging, but with a proactive approach, it is possible to stay productive and achieve your goals. It’s not uncommon for students to feel short of time and overwhelmed.

Analyse daily schedule

Mohammad al Yarubi, a final-year student, said, “I learned from past experiences and take a proactive approach to manage my time during Ramadhan”.

He starts by analysing his daily schedule, including school hours, Iftar and Suhoor times, and any Ramadhan programmes he wants to watch.

By doing this, he can calculate the hours of free time he has available and allocate them towards his tasks.

Yarubi said dividing study time in a measured way is important. “Taking short naps can boost your memory, especially during fasting. Eating healthy foods and moderate meals are also important factors to consider,” he said.

Yarubi suggests avoiding studying during periods of physical exhaustion since it can be challenging to achieve the necessary level of concentration needed to comprehend or retain the material.

“Instead, take a break and recharge your energy for some time when you’re able to study effectively,” he said.

Determine the best time

Labid al Amri, a university student, suggests defining study goals and determining the best time to be active. He said that the intensity of activity varies from person to person, with some finding the early morning the best time to study, while others prefer to allocate time for studying in the evening. “Determine the best time for you and make the most of it,” he said.

Amri was of the view that it is important to plan in advance to stay productive during Ramadhan. “Setting goals before bed and jotting down tasks or lessons that need to be accomplished can help maintain focus and stay organised,” he said.

Concentrate on one subject a day

According to Amri, it is essential to concentrate on one subject per day and avoid getting distracted by other subjects. “By dedicating your attention solely to a single subject, you’ll be able to comprehend and handle it more efficiently. Make sure to allocate different days for different subjects and avoid mixing them, which can be distracting,” he said.

Although balancing studying and fasting during Ramadhan can be challenging, with careful planning and a proactive approach, students can achieve their goals and make the most out of this sacred month.
