The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MoTCIT) have said licenses have been issued to manage and operate tourist piers at marinas in different parts of the governorate, which will boost tourism and maritime transport.

Licenses have been issued for the tourist pier by the Al Marsa Travel and Tourism Company (250 metres), Muscat Bay (105 metres), Jabal Sifah (864 metres), and Hawana Salalah (482 metres).

Two licenses have also been issued to manage and operate the commercial boats of Oman Natural Gas Company in Sur (150 metres) and Al Shorouk Marine Handling and Navigation Company (305 metres).

Once the basic terms and requirements for obtaining a licence are met, a decision on the application is made within 30 days.

Maktoum bin Rashid bin Said al Shehh, Director at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said that initial approvals were granted to a number of local and foreign commercial companies for tourism purposes, and they are now in the process of completing the requirements of the regulation to issue licenses for managing and operating marine berths. He said licenses were granted to large companies.

Eng Khamis bin Mohammed bin Abdullah al Shamaki, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport, recently told the Observer that the tender for water taxis will be floated soon with sites identified in Muscat, Musannah, and North Al Batinah.
