World Beach Games, Asian Games to top OOC agenda

MUSCAT: Oman is expected to take part in four sports championships in the coming period which include the second World Beach Games at Bali in Indonesia, the 19th Asian Games at Hangzhou in China, the sixth Asian Indoor Games at Bangkok in Thailand and the first GCC Youth Sports, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates.


The General Assembly of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) will hold discussions on the participation of the national teams in the above events during its meeting on Tuesday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel - Al Irfan, headed by Khalid bin Mohammed al Zubair, OOC Chairman.


During the meeting, the minutes of the previous meeting of the General Assembly, which was held on February 28, 2022, will be ratified, and the annual report will be reviewed, which includes a report on the administrative status and activities of the committee for the year ending 2022.


In 2022, many domestic events were organised, including the Olympic Day in the Wilayat of Sur, the activity of Our Active Society in the Wilayat of Salalah, the event of the Omani Youth Day in the Wilayat of Suhar, the establishment of the Sports Track Programme over a period of three days, in addition to the organisation of the first and second athletes’ forum, and a symposium on sports medicine and combating doping.


The Oman Challenge Programme for Women Sports Leaders was held in Al Jabal Al Akhdhar.


The report also includes the most important business and administrative decisions taken by the Board of Directors, the Executive Office and sub-committees in their meetings held during the year.


The reports and technical results of the external participation of the OOC, which were represented in the third GCC Sports Games that were held in Kuwait in May 2022, and the fifth Sports Games of Islamic Solidarity held in Konya, Türkiye, in August 2022.


OOC activities and events for the current year 2023 will also be reviewed, the most important of which are the international participations for which the official invitations was received by the OOC.


Internal events such as the Olympic Day, the approved Oman Olympic Academy programmes for this year and a group of sports, awareness and social events that were included in the activities of the Board of Directors’ sub-committees, and other programmes will also be discussed.
