The Omani Lawyers Association (OLA) launched the 10th edition of the Fak Kurbah Initiative under the auspices of Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan bin Hamoud al Busaidy, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council.

This Initiative, under the slogan "Because we believe that everyone deserves a second chance”, aims to collect donations to release those who have been imprisoned for civil, commercial, Sharia and labour cases.

In his inaugural remarks, Al Busaidy said: “Adhering to Allah’s divine command, and following the generosity of our Prophet (PBUH) and reflecting the solidarity and unity of our Omani society, we inaugurate the 10th edition of Fak Kurbah Initiative 2023 organised by the Omani Lawyers Association and supported by the Supreme Judicial Council through the execution departments.” “Let’s join hands and help those in need, let’s be a cause of their relief, as we are approaching the Holy month of Ramadhan,” he said.

Since 2012, the Initiative has contributed to the release of 4,969 prisoners. The Initiative has also instilled the concepts of solidarity among society members and the joint partnership between institutions.

“Our ultimate goal is to make a positive impact and give a valuable chance to people who have been behind bars for long time. Our donations could relieve the distress of others and bring back the joyfulness to their families. We are proud to launch the 10th edition of “Fak Kurbah” Initiative which would not have been sustained without the generosity of the Omani society’s individuals and institutions,” said Mohammed al Zadjali, OLA’ Chairman and the Supervisor of the Initiative.

"The Initiative started by a lawyer, then a group of lawyers, and here we are today, thanks to Allah, individuals, groups and institutions are all working together to make this Initiative successful,” said Al Zadjali.

In order to facilitate the donations process and to enhance the participation of all community groups, donations can be made on the initiative's website (www.fakkrba.om) and its designated bank account.

It is worth noting that Fak Kurbah Initiative will continue until mid-May 2023. OLA is looking forward to transforming this humanitarian Initiative into a sustainable project operating throughout the year.
