12 teams to vie for Omantel Schools League title

As many as 12 teams representing 200 students and sports teachers will take part in the improved edition of 2022-23 Omantel Schools Football League. The schooling event is being organised under the umbrella of Oman Schools Sports Association (OSSA).


The league will begin on March 16 (Thursday) and conclude on March 21 (Tuesday). It will feature participation of all the 11 education directorates besides one international private school.


The league will focus on providing an environment that will assist in discovering talented students who can contribute to the development of Oman’s football in the near future. Also, the event aims to create a real partnership with relevant institutions in order to explore talented students in various sports fields and refine them to serve the community and contribute to its advancement, and contribute to providing a sports environment that helps to discover talented students in football.


The teams will be distributed into four groups and each group will include three teams. The top two teams in each group will advance to the last-eight stage and then the winners will move to the semifinals. The group matches will be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday while quarterfinals will be played on Sunday. The semifinals are scheduled on Monday and the final on Tuesday.

PRIZE MONEY


Each team will comprise nine players including the goalkeeper besides five players as substitutes. Only five substitutions are allowed. The winner of the league will receive 18 golden medals and RO 2,000 cash prize while the second-placed team will be awarded 18 silver medals and RO 1,500. The third-placed team will get 18 bronze medals and RO 1,000. Besides there will be individual awards for top-scorer, most valuable player and best goalkeeper award.


The 2022-23 Omantel Schools League aims to provide best practices of sports as a daily lifestyle for young people, encourage student gathering in sporting events, link the schools directly with the local community by executing sports activities. It focuses on implementing activities of a direct group nature that enhance educational values and good behaviours, developing the student’s personality specially the spirit of innovation, creativity, and acquiring the desired experiences and technical skills.


The event focuses on utilising student’s leisure time properly by practicing various activities for the benefit of students and the community.


On the sidelines of the league, many events will take place including sports festivals for over 40 sports teachers from Muscat Education governorate. The first festival will be held at Seeb Stadium on Thursday, at Al Amerat Club on Saturday and at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher on Monday.
