MUSCAT: International Women’s Day (IWD) was celebrated by the global Poetry and Literary Group (PLG) online in Oman. The group held their 154th session online which was moderated by Sherebanu Akbari from Oman.

A mosaic of poetic beauty was presented through the special online poetry event titled ‘Beauty.’

Female poets participated online from countries like US, Canada, Bahrain, UAE, Qatar, Tashkent, UK, Mauritius, Indonesia, Sultanate of Oman and India, reciting poems crowning womanhood.

Distinguished poet, author and academician Dr Durga Prasad from US graced the occasion as the honorary chief guest.

The recitations gave a kaleidoscopic view, and various perspectives about beauty. Golden poems flowered to perfection, bringing laughter and philosophy.

Apart from individual perspectives, each poet gave a common definition about beauty. The participants were of the view that beauty is the lifeline of poets without which no poetry exists. The poets elaborated on the magnificence of moon and how countless poems have been written on ‘eyes’, of painters who see joy in his colours and a singer’s charm reflected in his symphonies or a dancer from her anklets.

Many of the poets who participated compared feminine beauty, and women to nature.

“When your thinking is beautiful every creation is a bliss. Beauty of the soul reflects on the face. When thy creator sculpted his creation, a loving bond was built between the Almighty and mankind. Love is a creation of God, where energy flows and beauty glows. Purity is beauty,” the poets mentioned.

Adding further to the title of ‘beauty’, which lies in the eyes of beholder, the poets compared ‘mother’ as the epitome of beauty and her luminous smile is woven with the charms of her offspring.

The weekly PLG e-magazine has published the poems after approval by its editorial board.
