Omani company testing hydrogen-diesel powered truck

Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT), on Sunday launched the first truck that works with diesel and hydrogen combined combustion technology, which will help reduce carbon dioxide emissions.


Engineer Saeed bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said carbon neutrality team have developed a truck will reduce the carbon dioxide emissions by 40 percent.


He said that the ministry encourages the development of any technology in the Sultanate of Oman, including its sponsorship so that the technology can be exported abroad.


Engineer Saeed bin Saif al Shibli, a mechanical engineer of the Omani company responsible for the project, said that it has tested 20 percent of the hydrogen gas injection in the engine, and will complete 40 percent in August.


The company said it that the trucks will hit the the global markets in 2024.
